extra ● soundtrack ● scenes ● connections ● ooc basics [top.] NAME: Brooke Amberlie. Born Fleur Amberlie. GOES BY: She gets called a variety of names from pet to doll to sweetie. Typically Brooke will answer to anything directed at her, even unpleasant ones. AGE AND DOB: 86. 24th August 1933. SPECIES: Vampire. CAREER: Pampered Pet. CURRENT RESIDENCE: The Ruby Curse. MARTIAL STATUS: Single. SEXUALITY: Asexual; doesn’t understand the concept of sex. ETHER: Yes. She is sickly sweet, the scent of gently decaying flowers, roses and lilies on wet earth. A thousand small thorns are scattered throughout, sharp pricks of pain in the gentle touch. Death clings lightly to her presence. supernatural [top.] ABILITIES VAMPIRE: She has all the normal vampire traits; enhanced speed, strength and agility, as well as a greater connection with her senses than mortals. Sight, sound and smell are all so much more vivid. Her species makes it appear as though she is immortal, Brooke not having aged past the date she became a vampire. SKILLS: Her most important skills are her ability to charm almost every living thing she sees, and her ability to become a completely new person. She also has a decent singing voice, soft and sweet, a voice that is often coupled with her talent for dancing. Due to her nationality, Brooke is capable of speaking, reading and writing fluent French. Brooke is also very good at sitting still and being pretty, being what other people want her to be. LIMITATIONS: She has all the normal weaknesses that come with being a vampire; an aversion to sunlight, prolonged contact making her feel nauseas and suffering from headaches. Fire can kill her and as a result, she is scared of it. Holy items are another weakness, as is any witch with the power to repel her off certain land. Rather bizarrely for a vampire, Brooke is scared of the dark when alone and without any task or thought to distract her. Being alone often frightens her as well, as does new people or situations. WEAPONRY TRAINING: Very little; most of the time Brooke relies on other people to protect her and fight her battles for her. If she is forced to fight herself, she uses her eyes and her acrobatic skills to doge any blow. She knows how to wield a blade, although usually the other person is restrained in some way. GROUP: The Raidan. POSITION: Member. OPINION: Clings to them as her family but doesn't really understand everything they do. ALLIANCES: The Raidan; Nikolas Tericcone. RIVALRIES: The Watch. appearance [top.] Everything about Brooke just screams purity and vulnerability, from her appearance to her dress sense. She is of average height for a woman, standing at around 5’6” and weighing a light 131lbs. Her big blue eyes contrast strikingly with her jet black hair, locks falling midway down her back. Normally they are arranged in natural loose curls, almost in waves. Now and then she will change her hairstyle, such as straighten the hair completely or wear it in some kind of ponytail. Brooke has been known to dye her hair a lighter shade if someone suggests it to her – and then back again when the person gets bored with her blond hair. Her clothing is very girly and old fashioned, favouring long dresses and thin shawls wrapped around her. The dresses can range from thin slick ones, to the old fashioned ‘hoop’ ring ones, to ones with countless layers of poof. Pink features predominately in her wardrobe, in all its many shades. There are the odd modern pieces of clothing mixed in with the rest, but they all tend to be unique in some way, such as delicate knitwear or patchwork skirts. She has a very faint flowery scent around her, the same roses and lilies that can be sensed in her ether connection, albeit alive and fresh, her favourite perfume. DISTINGUISHING MARKS: Her bite marks and a faint scar line around them on her neck from where she was turned into a vampire are the only marks of note on her body; lower than normal, they are almost on her collarbone line instead of her neck. personality [top.] There is an alluring innocence about Brooke, a sweetness that inspired her sire to try and destroy her and a sweetness that has survived the change, albeit in a twisted, new form. Although Brooke is always softly spoken and frequently gentle in her manner and actions, it shouldn’t be taken as a sign of weakness. She is just as capable of switching to deadly when needed but it is her detached, coolness that is more frightening. Very much a child; she has a childish curiosity about the world, the type of child that pulls wings off a fly to see what happens. She will poke and prod, cut and maim to try and get to the bottom of whatever question she might have. Things are simple in her mind; there is black, there is white. There is right and there is wrong, without anything in between. While her concept of right and wrong is understandably more than a little skewed, she trusts in it unless someone tells her otherwise. There is a lot about the world that she doesn’t understand and doesn’t try to. Brooke is submissive, always willing to believe anything someone more important than her tells her to, trusting to the Raidan to deal with any of the more complicated, adult parts of the world. She very rarely kills her victims when feeding upon them. This isn’t out of a desire to be kind, or a lack of will to cause death, but quite simply that Brooke likes to feed from the same person more than once. She craves familiarity, things she knows and recognizes. They are safe to her, comforting. On the opposite side to that, she hates new experiences and change. They unsettle her, even frighten her to a degree because she doesn’t know how to react to something new, and doesn’t know how they will effect her in the long run. It is hard for Brooke to picture life past a week or so into the future, or remember any great details of things in the past; time as a whole is yet another concept she struggles with and new things threaten to ruin the comfortable timeless bubble she lives in. At the same time however, Brooke is rather careless with other living things and people she feeds upon will eventually die, be it because she forgets to make sure someone finds them in time or she simply drinks from them too often, too quickly. Her carelessness extends to her pets, no matter how much she loves them, she is simply incapable of keeping them alive for any great amount of time before some kind of accident happens or she forgets that living, breathing animals need to be fed more than once a week. Brooke cries for each and every pet that dies, more often than not insisting on a funeral for them so that there is nearly always a macabre little pet graveyard on some part of a Raidan property. She will mourn her latest pet for as long as it takes for her to get a new one, attention then instantly shifting. Brooke will let the Raidan do anything to her and in turn do anything for them. So long as someone within the group is showing her attention then she doesn’t mind if that attention is bad; they could beat her and she would thank them for it. For the most part, she thrives on the more positive attention she receives, seeking out those who like her and make a fuss of her. Nothing pleases Brooke more than to be given a task by someone in the Raidan and she will follow through on that task whole heartedly, becoming another person if she has to in order to lie, wheedle, seduce or hurt her way to success. It is more than simply lying; Brooke somehow manages to convince herself that she is a whole new person, with a completely different outlook on life if that is what it takes. Afterwards, she will revert back to her docile, quiet self, still with the memories of everything she did, but often without the understanding of why she did what she did or felt what she felt. history [top.] FAMILY FATHER: Philippe Amberlie. [Deceased] MOTHER: Anna Amberlie née Fabrice. [Deceased] SIBLING(S): Justin Amberlie [Older Brother; Deceased]; Dorian Amberlie [Older Brother; Unknown]; Fernand Amberlie [Younger Brother; Deceased] • Fleur Amberlie was the third child and only daughter of a wealthy French couple, born in 1933. • Her childhood is little more than a haze to her now, a confusing mix of parties, running in the fields and being spoilt; memories blurring together and events impossible to separate into a chronological line. • She knew that Fernand was born some time after her, but the exact date was lost to her. • It was a happy childhood, a good and easy one and even the world war that tore through France for several years didn’t really intrude into her own personal little bubble. • Somewhat selfish of her, Fleur didn’t care what happened to other people unless it effected her in some way. • Even human, she had the talent of making people do what she wanted; all Fleur had to do was bat her eyes at her parents and they would give her anything. • Her death is the thing she remembers best about her mortal life; the way in which the whole family spent hours preparing for the grand ball they were hosting, a few months after Fleur turned twenty two. • It was exciting thrilling, Brooke delighted with her expensive new dress and all the dancing, revelling in being the centre of attention. • Without warning; the vampires struck. Slinking into the large ballroom, it was Philippe who first noticed one of them and realised they weren’t on the very exclusive guest list. • He asked them to leave and in response they snapped his neck without hesitation. • The Amberlie family was rounded up with the rest of the party goers but then separated; they had hosted this party and then been rude enough not to invite the vampires and so they would pay. • Their mother was killed first, a quick cut along her throat, the vampires turning up their noses at eating someone they considered old and dry. • Sobbing, Fleur was also forced to watch her eldest brother, Justin killed, his throat torn out brutally, the still warm blood spraying across the group, marking them all. • Her cries caught the attention of the male vampire who seemed to be the power of the group, a dark eyed man by the name of Stygian. • He passed over Dorian, his intended target to take in the young female for the first time, Fleur lifting her tear stained wide eyes to meet his gaze. Instantly, he was hooked, entranced by those eyes. • He changed her right there and then, delighting in destroying such purity. • Becoming a vampire was traumatic, painful, a sudden explosion of sight and sound, the world sharpening around in. It hurt, leaving her confused and weakened – and hungry. • A human was led into the room with her, Fleur not recognizing him or hearing his cries, the hunger over taking everything, a red mist descending. • When the mist faded away, it was to find a body at her feet, her mouth still stained with blood. Fleur recognized the male now, heart shattering to realise it was her younger brother; she had killed her brother. • It was only the start of her torment, Stygian and his group of females delighting in twisting the young girl, in destroying everything she cared about and subjecting her to all manner of torture. • She responded by drawing into herself, hiding away more and more in her mind even as she broke, becoming the empty doll that Stygian wanted, a pretty little doll that would do whatever he wanted and could then be forgotten about for a while. • Stygian renamed her Brooke, her personality reminding him clear empty water and of course, for her blue eyes. • There was no way for the young vampire to know, but nearly eighteen years passed in this manner, Brooke becoming quite content to be petted and pampered and then left alone, even if this last state of affairs scared her. • She was alone in her room in the early hours of a morning when different sounds filled the house, voices of people she didn’t know. Brooke simply remained sitting on her bed, the well behaviour toy she was, even as screams started to fill the air, cries as the vampires were cut down by one. • One of the attacking group entered her room, Brooke staring at him without fear but simple curiosity. She could tell he was a vampire too but she wasn’t afraid – the years had stripped away any fear. • He introduced himself as Nikolas Tericcone, the male amused by her lack of fear. He offered her an alternative to the death that being given to the rest of the coven for trying to attack the Raidan. • Meekly, Brooke went with him, becoming a willing part of the Raidan. • She clung to Nikolas throughout, seeing him as a protector, a teacher, someone who would keep her safe. • It was the Raidan who really encouraged the use of her eyes when they became aware of the power in them and Brooke was more than willingly to exploit her gift, wanting to give the Raidan something back. • As she met more and more of the Raidan, she clung to more and more, finding a warped kind of family without the mix. • She’s been a part of them ever since, a loyal follower. extra [top.] ● The way in which she pronounces certain words betray her French heritage. ● Will sometimes just silently connect to someone in the Ether, just so she isn’t alone. ● Has had sex more than once and still doesn’t get why people care so much for it. ● Honestly doesn’t quite understand why her flowers always die when she tries to look after them in her room. ● Same with her pets; she is always upset when they die. ● Likes to dress her dogs up in little pet costumes; has even been known to wheel her favourites around in doll prams. ● Favourite colour is pink. ● Sleeps with a night-light on. soundtrack [top.] ♪ Natalie Merchant; My Skin [Character Theme]. ♪ Joan Osborne; One of Us. ♪ Switchfoot; This is Your Life. ♪ Vienna Teng; Drought. scenes [top.] Past. 1979 » Brooke pays her first visit to the captive Jackson in order to learn some truths about the inner workings of wolves.
